Good Text - and professional reference

This is a classic from the McGraw - Hill Forestry Series. I first used this back in the 60's as a forestry student. The changes are all for the best.

I would strongly recommend this to the student of dendrology in the northeast. It's one of the few texts which you will use throughout your career.

Perhaps nowhere is her feminist position more clearly articulated than on the title page of this, her first publication: she addresses herself to women, her aim is “the advancement of their true and greatest interest,” and she identifies herself as “a lover of her sex.” But, despite its importance, no previously available edition of A Serious Proposal to the Ladies has addressed the complications of Astell’s prose style, and none has added the kind of glossing and notes that will assist student readers in their engagement with her distinctive voice. This edition, designed for classroom use, provides an ample introduction, a carefully modernized text, helpful glosses and notes, and a useful bibliography with references for further reading.

Burden of evidence

The primary reason I've given this a two star rating is not for the science presented. From what I know already of cognitive science Barrett presents the basics quite well. My problem was with the unsupportable efforts he made to give

I bought the Audible version of this book so I can't flip through pages and site specific examples by page or chapter, but early on Barrett rejects the idea that we should only believe things for which we have proof by treating it as an absolute and inflexible bar against believing anything, and goes on at the end of a later chapter to assert at great length that we can't reject beliefs in gods simply because they come from unconsidered assumptions and have no discernible basis in reality. He put the burden of evidence on proving that gods don't exist rather than waiting for any evidence to believe, even after detailing the flawed automatic assumptions that can lead to belief that some god or other supernatural agents exist. Towards the end of the book too, he holds forth on the likelihood of evolution based on his own personal incredulity. That was the part where I simply turned off the audio book. Maybe he backs down from attacking science with strong evidence in favor of someone's *feeling* that a god must exist but he had already thoroughly undermined his own credibility.

VIRGINIA A. GREIMAN is Professor of Megaproject Management and Inter- national Development and Project Finance at Boston University. She is the former deputy counsel and risk manager for the Big Dig (from 1996 to 2005), and served as a core manager on the twelve-member project executive team responsible for the daily operations of the project. Great Book to Have Handy

I needed this book for my equine internal medicine class and it was very helpful. It is well organized and had helpful illustrations. For the backyard horseman it may be difficult to understand and you must review the abbreviations in the back. I thoroughly enjoyed flipping through the book.

I like the fact the book was so reasonable. I was a little disappoint when I saw how much the name was covering the side of the book through. But my daughter whom I bought the book for was still pleased. I am now seeking the other two volumes that I thought were with the text I bought originally.

I have read many heavenly experiences but, for me, this one is very informative & different.

I loved Divine Truths Revealed! I have read many heavenly experiences but, for me, this one is very different. My mother was brought back from death when I was a baby and her love of heaven and God made a lifelong impression on me. Because of my mother’s experience, I always knew from my earliest memories that God and heaven do exist. I knew that God loved me but I also knew I was a sinner and I didn’t have an understanding of how to reconcile those truths. The author explains this very well which is part of the reality in this book that, for me, is different than some of the others. This book really isn’t about any death experience of the author’s but it is, for me, more about what God himself is like and why we were created. I was raised as a Catholic and never attended any other church until I was about 38 yrs. old. [I’m 73 yrs old now.] I still love the Catholic Church but for various reasons I felt that I was to attend non-Catholic worship. I now live in Jerusalem with my Jewish husband and I’ve gotten very interested in God’s Eternal love and plan for Israel. Many of even my good Christian friends are anti-Catholic and, as much as I love my friends, I feel it very wrong to criticize the faith that gave me a very strong foundation in God and his beloved son, Jesus/Yeshua! I read and enjoyed this book as I was happy to see the author is NOT a former but now anti-Catholic and that she also loves and appreciates the Jews. Having had a miscarriage in my 20 s I was also very happy to read the chapter about all babies in heaven! I highly recommend this book to those looking for deeper spiritual truths!

This book does a great job of expounding upon biblical truths and using real life applications to convey the message of love. It is a book that implores you to look at your heart and thought processes. I liked that this book was emotive and almost urgent in tone yet also reassuring and inspiring. This is a book you will like for several reasons if you need a reminder or deeper exposure to blblical wisdom.

This book is filled with information. However, most of it contains quotes by other people, and not much contribution by the author. He does give credit to the originators of those statements, so each page has numerous acknowledgements at the bottom. A bit laborious to read, and I was disappointed.

Wise, well-written, and profound study on aging

Having read several of Paul Stevens' books, I was prepared to be instructed, challenged and encouraged by his new book on Aging--and I was not disappointed. Paul Stevens has great wisdom, and he shares it here in abundance. As he does in all his books, he carefully mines the Scriptures--both Old and New Testament--for what can be learned and applied to those of us baby boomers who are entering the "third third" of life.
Stevens argues that the Scripture knows nothing of the relatively recent concept of "retirement" (according to Stevens, Germany was the first country to institute formal retirement--in 1889), but that retirement--whether that means fully retiring from the work one has done for many years or not--can be an opportunity for significant personal growth and opportunity.

One of the most powerful parts of the book was the third section, entitled "Legacy". In that section, he encourages Christians not only to leave their material possessions through wills and trusts as blessings rather than curses (and a will can do either), but he also encourages the practice of "ethical wills"--a document (whether as a letter to one's family or as a part of a standard will) "designed to pass ethical values from one generation to another." (p. 134)

The book has, at end of each chapter, a Bible study on the theme of the chapter, and there is an excellent bibliography at the end of the book. Stevens writes in a gentle, winsome manner, and the book is really a wonderful introduction to a very difficult--but extremely relevant--topic, that will be a matter that most everyone will have to think through. Stevens "plumbs the depths" of Scripture in this excellent study. Highly recommended.

It's a book I should have read 20 years ago or more than that. It would have helped me prepare my aging process and Christian livi. I feel people in their 40's should make it a book for helping them prepare in their aging process. It made me realize I am still important and we all need each other.

Reborning Overview

This is a beautifully photographed book which addresses many aspects of reborning, including assembly, painting, rooting and detailing. I was also very impressed to find a section with instructions on how to open eyes in vinyl and three pages regarding ethnic babies. Additionally, there is an extensive list of suppliers with detailed photos of the various products.

This is a beautiful reference, and would also make a lovely gift or coffee table book.

Great pictures, text not bad either but the typos?? Ugh.

This book left me with mixed feelings. It has great pictures and amazing help with color. The pictures speak thousand words. This book helps by just using the pictures as a reference when you are doing your painting. The text is ok, to my opinion hard to follow directions. I like step by step, this is not it. And one annoying thing in this book... the number of typos. Michelle, you have a talent, but PLEASE have somebody proofread your work next time before you publish. It looks very unprofessional and for the cost of this book, these types of typos are unacceptable to me. Hence the four stars, although my tru rating should be 3.5. It's better than 3 but not quite 4 stars.

This book is okay...but not great

This book is also over priced. If you are looking for information on how to do ethnic skintones without using RIT dye, this is not the book. Some of the information is okay, but really, you can get the info in this book online for free.
