Poor Quality Automated Copy

This book was automatically generated by a machine scanning an old version and attempting to convert the scanned pages into text (called OCR). Unfortunately the publisher doesn't proof read what comes out of their machine so the book is full of typos. So far about 20 in the first 10 pages.

The publisher justifies this by saying that you can get access to a downloadable copy of the original which doesn't have typos. If I wanted to download the book I would have done that. I actually wanted a printed copy without typos. Is that too much to ask for? Apparently it is for this publisher.

"Very Classy" is Anything But

For an author who claims to understand and promote manners, "Very Classy" is shockingly devoid of them. It is a good clue to the supposed classiness of this book that the premise is based on designating grown women "girls" and "tramps" -- it is even on the title page. It begins with a tiring monologue of blatant self-promotion, peppered with insults, and the rest of the book unfortunately follows suit. The author's apparent association with famous people of poise does nothing to improve his credibility; money and fame have little to do with grace. He mocks women (both "victorian" and "slutty", in his words) with nasty remarks, and includes photos of himself hanging all over ladies of the red carpet that do little to charm or entertain.

Mr. Blasberg repeatedly insists that a woman's way to "classiness," by which he means mannerliness, is through the material and the superficial. The very first sentence of the first chapter emphasizes the importance of the way a woman looks to other people and the importance of fashion rather than character. Any advice actually pertaining to manners are so obvious the reader could pick it up in almost any other etiquette-related text. Preferably one that does not insult under the guise of humor. Classy indeed.

This book is style over substance, the very opposite of mannerly behavior, and a good dose of gentlemanliness on the part of the author would go a long way to save it. Perhaps we should start with concerning ourselves over whether a woman is gracious, rather than teasing out whether or not she is wearing underwear.

I did not enjoy this book, in fact I found it so uninteresting that i have put it down and do not intend to finish it. Without wanting to be too negative in my review I will just say this - there are so many wonderful books out there to read, this unfortunately is not one of them.

Perfect, if you're trying to go from complete trash to a common, decent person.

I purchased this book along with Classy and was extremely disappointed by both. If you are thinking of purchasing both don't. Either buy one, the other, or neither. If you MUST buy one, get whichever is cheaper. Very Classy is literally Classy with five extra pages. As for the content I was also disappointed. My recommendation would be to not buy this book unless you are trying to go from "everything that's wrong with our youth today" to simply a decent, common sense person.

A most enjoyable read.

Zoe's Muster has elements of the traditional - girl looking for her "real" father - but the way Barbara Hannay has written this story makes those elements take on a new perspective.

Zoe takes off to the north of Queensland to join a cattle muster as the camp cook, after she discovers purely by chance that the father she has always known is not her biological one. This is a surprise to her mother as well, and Claire, beset by marriage problems, begs Zoe not to tell anyone why she is at the station working. Obviously, this causes a few problems for Zoe.

I loved that this book was set in Brisbane, as I lived there for many years and now live on an hour and a half away in the country.

The character of Zoe was excellent portrayed and, to my relief, was not "over the top" bull-headed - or "feisty" as authors like to call young women who are badly behaved. Zoe is everyone's daughter, a pleasant character, capable of being hurt without lashing out like a madwoman. She is humble without being servile, takes instruction from anyone who knows what they're talking about and is generally a credit to her creator.

I have known quite a few Mac's in my life - being brought up on a rural property myself - and he is better looking and sexier than any I came across - but then he has to be, he's the main male protagonist.

The supporting cast are excellently presented and had the effect of me wanting to read more by this author. I like Australian fiction - it has to be authentic and not "Americanised" as some are - and this novel is well worth anyone's time to read.

Great Story

Zoe's Muster was a great read. The twist to initiate the plot was well thought out and had me intrigued until the end. I loved the characters. Zoe who is such a determined woman was a delight to get to know. Then there is Mac. A nicely rounded up package of the ruggered outback Jackaroo. If you love reading Australian rural romance well this is another one to add to your reading list. Excellent read.

Two great stories in one

Zoe's Muster was a really enjoyable read. The love story between Zoe and Mac is everything that a Romance should have. But in a way the character of Zoe's mother, Claire, was even more of a treat for me. She wasn't just a support for the heroine, she was a heroine of her own. It was Claire's story and the choices she faced that kept me up way past my bed time reading. Fantastic!

I bought this as a gift for a friend who loves Andy Goldsworthy. It has beautiful photographs and wonderful explanations. It large and well-bound. Perfect for a coffee table book!
