Good reference

I just purchased the updated version of this book since mine has become very outdated since I graduated from nursing school seven years ago... This book does a great job of outlining the basics of what various tests are looking for, normal results, and what abnormal results could indicate. It also tells you pre-test and post- test nursing considerations. The book is divided into sections of laboratory tests and diagnostic tests, so you can easily flip to a section to find what you're looking for.

The book is better at lab tests; the informaiton on imaging studies and such isn't as helpful. For instance, a DEXAscan was not included in this version and I've had difficutly with other tests as well.

Overall, great reference material which I refer to often.

You will never want to go to a nursing clinical withouth this book! I found the material to be easily understood and found exactly what I was looking for with it's excellent glossery and index. It is similiar to having a palm pilot in my hands! I was able to impress my instructors and my colleagues with information on diagnosis and labs. What an amazing book!

Lab Test reference

I love this book! It is clear concise and easy to follow. It has helped me with many clinical write ups in nursing school. I can find what I need fast and it also gives possible reasons for high and low values which really helps when writing up care plans. All of the tests are in alphabetical order, so you don't have to spend a lot of time looking through the index to find out what page the information is on. This is probably my favorite reference book for nursing school.

not what i expected, felt a little out of date...

I was expecting something more current date - there are a lot of new movements since the 90s where the line between the terms 'artist' and 'designer' have become blurred...

This book didn't really talk about anything new. It addressed topics which we already have some notion of the design/art blur. But in all cases of this book, I would still call it design. Chapters: 1. pattern 2. furniture 3. interiors 4. architecture --- I was ready to read about something beyond that, something that showcases what's happening now...

About the Author
Susan J. Armstrong is Professor of Philosophy at Humboldt State University in Arcata, California. She has taught environmental ethics with Prof. Richard G. Botzler since l983. Her dissertation "The Rights of Nonhuman Beings: A Whiteheadian Study" (1976) is considered to be the first dissertation written on environmental ethics. (Available online at www.humboldt.edu/~phil/susan.html). Susan is a member of the Editorial Board of Environmental Ethics. She has written a number of articles and book chapters on process philosophy and recently co-edited The Animal Ethics Reader (Routledge 2003) with Richard G. Botzler. She was nominated for Outstanding Professor in l989 and 2002.

Richard Botzler is a Professor of Wildlife at Humboldt State University. He has served as a Fulbright Fellow to the Federal Republic of Germany and as editor for the Journal of Wildlife Diseases. Rick has authored over 40 journal articles, book chapters, encyclopedia entries, and book reviews in wildlife health and diseases, science ethics, and environmental ethics. He was selected as Humboldt State University's outstanding professor for 1991 and as 1992 outstanding professor for the 20-campus California State University. He also received the Distinguished Service Award from the Wildlife Disease Association. Rick enjoys hiking the backcountry of Humboldt County and cycling.

This is one of the best environmental ethics textbook I've used for my class. It consists of many articles and stories written by notable environmental educators and philosophers. Consider this as a good resource for a environmental education class.

Great Book with Great Essays

Wonderful book by wonderful professors of the subject matter. I went into the class an 'unknowing' student of the importance of stewardship and came out seeing the importance and a changed person. My politics have changed. Professors are two of the best at HSU, which in itself, is one of the best universities to study anything to do with the natural sciences.

Acres of Diamonds sparkles!

This book will not appeal to those who think that one's own surroundings offer no advantages. I agree there are some places so remote or lacking in oppritunity that to not relocate is rather a apathetic approach to life. Yet Mr. Conwell is trying to encourage the citizens of a huge city of Philadelphia that money can be made there just as easy as any other big city. I will not reveal how he suggests this can happen but I agree with Mr. Conwell's approach and logic. Helping people meet their goals will have a good effect on your ability to meet your goals. However, I feel that only works if you are dealing with good people. Ethical imbeciles don't play fair and have fun doing it. If one has the chance to meet and deal with decent people, or you encourage that side of them, then Acres of Diamonds is enchanting. I was enchanted.
