The Most Coveted Prize

Ms Jordan's current writing style leeches all of the fun out of the story. It feels pretentious. All of those endless paragraphs spent describing the architecture and decorations in various building could have been better spent on the hero being made to suffer for his dastardly actions. The heroine is so naïve it's painful. In fact it is extremely difficult to connect with either of these characters. I flipped through most of the book. Not one of her better efforts.

I completely agree with the previous reviewer. It's exhausting reading these endless and unnecessarily wordy sentences and paragraphs. Example: "She might `only' be nineteen, as Vasilii was so fond of reminding her, but she was more than old enough to know from the one tremulous, daring glance she had risked earlier in the week into those malachite-green eyes--so matching in colour the awesome columns of malachite in St Petersburg's Winter Palace--exactly what the man now standing engaged in conversation with another Russian on the other side of the exclusive hotel's even more exclusive lounge lobby was." ????? This is the norm rather than the exception to how this entire book is written. The cumbersome writing style makes it a chore to get through rather than an enjoyable read. The story is nowhere compelling enough to make up for that, so give this one a skip.

Wasn't impressed

It does not give me pleasure to write this review at all. I have always held Penny Jordan in high regards when it comes to Harlequin Romance novels. So I found myself shocked that this was a product she put out. The book was a bore! I found myself flipping pages hoping I would get to something spicy yet continue to get the same mundane naivete from her character. When reading we all expect background info and other tid bits to help us envision the scene set before us. Yet to describe in great detail as she did in certain parts of the book was unnecessary. I have not given up faith in Mrs Jordan but this book was a no go.
